Roborank

AI Meta Description Generator

We read the page, then write five descriptions from what is on it. Each one takes a different angle and each one fits the space Google gives you.

Free, a few runs a day per visitor. Nothing you enter is stored.

Descriptions for one page, or for the pages that need them most.

Roborank reads your Search Console data, finds the pages ranking well but getting no clicks, rewrites their titles and descriptions, and publishes the change to your CMS.

What a meta description is actually for

It is not a ranking factor. Google confirmed that a long time ago and nothing has changed. What it does is decide whether the person looking at ten results clicks yours, and that changes your traffic more directly than a ranking move of one or two positions would.

Google also rewrites descriptions a lot, somewhere around two thirds of the time by most measurements, usually because it found text on the page that matched the query better than what you wrote. That is not a reason to skip writing one. A page with no description leaves Google to assemble something from whatever text it finds, and the result is frequently a navigation menu or a cookie notice.

How long it should be

Google truncates on pixel width rather than character count, at roughly 920 pixels on desktop and less on mobile. In practice that works out at about 155 to 160 characters, which is why the generator targets 140 to 158. Wide characters eat the budget faster than narrow ones, so treat the number as a guide rather than a line.

The more useful rule: put what matters in the first 120 characters. Mobile cuts earlier than desktop, and a description whose point only arrives at character 150 loses it on half your traffic.

What makes one work

Say what is specific to this page

"Learn about our services" describes ten thousand pages. "Pricing for all three plans, with the per-episode costs spelled out" describes one.

Match the promise to the page

A description that promises more than the page delivers gets the click and loses the visitor, and the bounce is visible.

Include the keyword if it fits

Google bolds query terms in the snippet, which makes the result more visible. Forcing it in where it reads badly costs more than the bolding gains.

Write one per page

Duplicate descriptions across a site are a missed opportunity on every page after the first, and Search Console flags them for a reason.

How this generator works

When you give it a URL, we fetch the page, strip the markup, and send the readable text to Claude along with the current title, H1 and description. The model writes five descriptions from that content, each taking a different angle: what the page is, the problem it solves, what the reader gets, one specific detail, and one with a light call to action.

You can also paste content directly, which is the way to do it for a page that is not published yet.

What to do with the output

Pick one, edit it, and check it against the page before you ship it. The model works from the text on the page, so it will not invent a feature that is not there, but it can emphasise something you would not have chosen to lead with. You know the page better than it does.

Then watch the CTR in Search Console. Give it three or four weeks, compare against the same period before, and remember Google may be rewriting yours anyway. If the numbers do not move, the description was probably not the constraint.

Frequently asked questions

Is the meta description a ranking factor?

No. Google has confirmed it does not use the meta description for ranking. It affects click-through rate, which affects traffic, which is why it is still worth writing well.

How long should a meta description be?

Around 140 to 158 characters. Google truncates on pixel width, roughly 920 pixels on desktop and less on mobile, so put the important part in the first 120 characters.

Why does Google rewrite my meta description?

Because it found text on the page that matched the query better than what you wrote. It happens on roughly two thirds of results. Writing one still helps, because the alternative is Google assembling something from whatever text it finds first.

Should every page have a meta description?

Every page you care about getting clicks on. For thousands of near-identical pages, a good template or letting Google generate one is more sensible than writing thousands of unique descriptions by hand.

Should the target keyword be in the description?

If it fits naturally, yes, because Google bolds query terms in the snippet and that makes the result stand out. Forcing it in where it reads badly costs more attention than the bolding wins.

Does AI-written meta description text hurt SEO?

No. Google judges whether the description is accurate and useful, not how it was produced. What does hurt is a description that promises something the page does not deliver, whoever wrote it.

Can I generate a description for a page that is not live yet?

Yes. Switch to the pasted-text tab and paste the content directly.

Is this meta description generator free?

Yes, with no signup. There is a small daily limit per visitor because each run costs us an AI call.
