Q&A Schema Generator

QAPage markup for a page built around one question that other people answer. Set the accepted answer, add the suggested ones, copy the JSON-LD.

The question

QAPage describes exactly one question per page. If your page answers several, you want the FAQ generator instead.

The answers

Mark one as accepted if the page shows a best or accepted answer. The rest are suggested answers.

Your Q&A schema

Fill in the question and at least one answer.

Nothing is uploaded. The schema is built in your browser as you type.

Good markup on a page nobody finds is wasted.

Roborank reads your Search Console data, finds the pages that are close to ranking, and fixes what is holding them back.

When you need QAPage instead of FAQPage

The two look similar and get mixed up constantly, but they describe different things. FAQPage is a page where the site asks its own questions and answers them. QAPage is a page built around one question that somebody asked, which other people then answer.

If you run a forum, a community board, a support site with user answers, or anything shaped like Stack Overflow or Reddit, QAPage is the one. If you wrote both the question and the answer yourself, it is FAQPage, and using QAPage there is a misrepresentation that Google does act on.

The practical difference that matters: QAPage still produces a rich result in search. The FAQ rich result was cut back to health and government sites in 2023. QAPage was not, so a well marked-up community thread can still show the answer count and the top answer directly in the listing.

The parts of the markup

What gets a QAPage ignored

The page has no answers yet

An unanswered question does not qualify. Mark up the page once at least one answer exists, or the markup describes something that is not there.

More than one question on the page

QAPage means one question per page. A page listing many threads should not use it. Mark up each thread's own page instead.

The site wrote the answers

If your own team wrote both sides, that is a FAQ, and it belongs in FAQPage. Dressing it up as a community thread is the kind of thing that attracts a manual action.

Answer counts that do not match

An answerCount of forty on a page showing three answers is a straightforward contradiction, and it undermines the rest of the markup on the page.

Checking it works

Paste the finished page URL into Google's Rich Results Test. QAPage is one of the types it reports on directly, so you will see whether the question, the accepted answer and the answer count were all read correctly. The Schema Markup Validator catches syntax problems that the Rich Results Test skips.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between QAPage and FAQPage schema?

QAPage is for one question asked by a user and answered by other users, like a forum thread. FAQPage is for questions the site asks and answers itself. Using QAPage on your own FAQ misrepresents the page and can trigger a manual action.

Does QAPage schema still get a rich result?

Yes. Unlike the FAQ rich result, which Google restricted to health and government sites in 2023, QAPage results still appear for community and forum pages, typically showing the answer count and the top answer.

Can a QAPage have more than one question?

No. The mainEntity is a single Question object. A page listing many threads does not qualify. Mark up each thread on its own page.

Do I need an accepted answer?

It is optional, but it is the part most likely to be shown in search. If your page marks a best or accepted answer, put it in acceptedAnswer. If nothing is marked as best, leave it out and list everything as suggested answers.

Should I include upvote counts?

Include them if your platform actually has voting and the numbers are real. They help search engines judge which answer to surface. Inventing them is the kind of detail that is easy to check against the visible page.

Is this Q&A schema generator free?

Yes, with no signup. It runs entirely in your browser, so your question and answers never leave the page.
